Mission Statement

boatLUV.com aims to offer female sailors and cruisers of all levels and interest a safe harbor to find inspiration and gain confidence behind the helm on whatever waypoint of life’s sail track they may be on. We strive to support a community of women in sailing looking to explore and express their love of sailing (we call it boatLUV!) through educational videos, blogs and nautical themed jewelry, clothing, gifts and boatwares (sailboat decor). We follow the Sailor Virtues: Courage, Confidence, Co-operation, Mindfulness, Perceptiveness, Patience, Respect, Resilience, Perseverance, Forbearance, Steadfastness, Decisiveness, Excellence, Orderliness, Serenity, Wonder and Awe.

About

Ahoy! My name is Naomi aka The Desert Sailor, and I am the creator of boatLUV and manager/owner/creative of TDS Enterprises & Design. I am passionate about getting more women on the water or interested in anything to do with sailing in any capacity – as sailing crew, as skippers, as cruisers or live-aboards even as educators. I have been sailing since I was 9 years old and am so grateful for having sailing in my life. I am also a huge fan of yoga and have been practicing for over 25 years. It is only within the past few years that these two passions have become inextricably intertwined both in the physical and spiritual sense. But, more about that in a future blog! If you want to know more about my sailing view my Sailing BioHighlights Include: ASA Certified Sailing Instructor (Basic Keelboat). Certified Instructor for the United States Power Squadron, ASA 101,105, USPS Weather Course, ABC Boating Course, member of the Las Vegas Sail and Power Squadron, Board Member (Secretary) of The National Women’s Sailing Association, member of the American Sailing Association. Notable Passages: Norfolk to Bermuda, BVI, Antigua, boat owner Coronado 25, club racer with the Nevada Yacht Club on various keelboats.

I first started making video blogs to document my own on-board experiences on a variety of different sailing vessels in a bunch of different environments (The Desert Sailor on youtube). When furthering my sailing education, I was preparing for my first offshore passage from Norfolk to Bermuda, and I was frustrated in trying to find gear specifically for the woman sailor. Upon cruising in the Caribbean and West Coast I also was hard pressed to be able to find nautical themed jewelry or shirts so I could commemorate my adventures with a keepsake. Then I got my own boat and wanted to decorate her like I would my home on land. Make her feel homey, cozy and inviting with, of course, some nautically themed dishes or pillows! Are you starting to see a theme?

And then I thought. let’s put all this boat pride stuff in one place! And why not start designing my own stuff, too! Holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, having a long career in performance arts (theatre, TV & Film) and my passion for sailing made the perfect foundation to launch boatLUV.

I thank you so much for hopping on board whenever you can!

Let’s weigh anchor together and head bravely for new horizons!

“We all want to grow and be better. But be careful of being in a hurry. Practice mindfully, and changes will come in their own time. Moving in the right direction is far more important than the pace.” – Bhante Sujatha
